The New MuPDF.com
We're excited to unveil the redesigned MuPDF.com, a refreshed online presence for our open-source PDF library.
MuPDF was first released in 2005 and MuPDF.com went live in April of 2010. Over the years, it has gone through several incarnations, with the latest being in 2021.
However, it became increasingly clear that MuPDF.com did not fully showcase the full breadth of MuPDF's functionalities or the growing array of language bindings. For example, PyMuPDF was acquired by Artifex in 2022, we first introduced MuPDF.js in 2023, but none of these were easily found on MuPDF.com. And so, we've reimagined our platform to provide a clear understanding of everything MuPDF can do!
New Language Bindings
Along with the new website, there are some exciting releases coming up. We've developed Java bindings and are now expanding our offerings with upcoming releases of MuPDF.js, focused on Node.js server applications, and MuPDF.NET, catering to enterprises using C#/.NET frameworks.
PyMuPDF
Originally developed in C, MuPDF has long been a trusted toolkit for conversion, manipulation, and extraction of PDFs. PyMuPDF, first released in 2016 and downloaded more than 60 million times since, introduced robust Python bindings for MuPDF and is considered a leader in PDF API functionality from within the Python environment. This will be the first time it’s had a major, official site since coming underneath the Artifex umbrella.
PyMuPDF is becoming increasingly popular among LLM (Large Language Model) and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) developers for its extraction capabilities, which are crucial for mitigating LLM hallucinations. To support their needs, we recently released PyMuPDF4LLM, which extends PyMuPDF's functionality specifically for working with large language models and related technologies.
