Artifex announces improved high-quality fax output

Available for immediate use, Artifex has developed a new output device for both its Ghostscript and GhostPDL products capable of producing error diffused monochrome output from a range of sources.

With a range of compression options available, this is an ideal way to generate high quality fax encoded output.

Key to the success of the device is its ability to render documents in higher spatial and color resolutions than required for the final output. By subsampling the rendered image down and converting it to monochrome with an error diffusion process, the final image retains far more of the original information than was henceforth possible.

In particular input files that would previously have given problems during rendering due to the low resolution of faxes now render without problems such as dropouts.

This is particularly useful in converting PCL to FAX format since PCL requires rendering at 600dpi, and fax is 200dpi. The device copes equally well with text, line art and bitmap graphics.

Artifex is a leading core technology provider with the most comprehensive software solution for the embedded printing market. Artifex’s Ghostscript offers all the major leading Page Distribution Languages (PDLs) including Portable Document Format (PDF), Postscript, XPS “Metro”, PCL5e/c, and PCLXL (together = PCL6), along with high-performance screening technologies and a combination of fonts compatible with leading printers.
