Artifex Update – October 2018

Over the past several weeks, Artifex engineers have made further progress in addressing the security exploits disclosed in August. As we continue these efforts our engineering staff are performing ongoing and intensive internal vulnerability audits. We would like to reiterate our commitment to ensuring the security of our software. We encourage our customers to always upgrade to the latest version of our products.

In other news, we are excited to announce the launch of two new software solutions along with major update releases to our existing products. Read on for a glimpse as to what’s been happening behind the scenes at Artifex.

Technology Update

Ghostscript 9.25 Update Release

Ghostscript 9.25 is the nineteenth full release in the Ghostscript and GhostPDL 9.xx series. Customers interested in evaluating this latest Ghostscript release can do so by visiting our Ghostscript download web page. Please contact us if you are interested in a commercial license for Ghostscript.

Highlights in this release include:

  • This release fixes problems with argument handling, some unintended results of the security fixes to the SAFER file access restrictions (specifically accessing ICC profile files), and some additional security issues over the recent 9.24 release.
  • Note: The ps2epsi utility does not, and cannot call Ghostscript with the -dSAFER command line option. It should never be called with input from untrusted sources.
  • Security issues have been the primary focus of this release, including solving several (well publicized) real and potential exploits.

PLEASE NOTE: We strongly urge users to upgrade to this latest release to avoid these issues.
